The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 is ‘Community’ – being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health.
With this in mind, our aim for this year’s Wellbeing Week was to spread awareness of how building more community involvement into our daily lives can support our mental health.
Activities included:
Wellbeing Stands: Supported by our college Wellbeing and Welfare Officer, information and advice on a variety of organisations that support positive wellbeing.
Knit and Natter: Knitting is said to be one of the most relaxing and calming activities you can do, it reduces stress and is good for anxiety, knitting with others reduces loneliness and isolation.
Joel Foster: A young up and coming music artist. His Debut single ‘Infected’ gained over 20k streams within the first week or release. Creating a mixture of Classic Rock, Alternative Rock and Indie, Joel takes his inspiration from the likes of Oasis, Sam Fender, Elton John and The Arctic Monkeys.
Harry Lyon: Singer, songwriter and producer.
Smoothie Bike: A Smoothie bike is a stationary bike with a blender fitted to the front of the bike which spins as you pedal. The blender is filled with a variety of fresh fruits and juices, creating a delicious smoothie for you to drink once you have finished pedalling.
Contemplative Mediation: Worried, stressed or anxious or just need some quiet space.
Yoga: An introduction to the ancient practice of Yoga & some of its core philosophies & foundations.
The Den: A male-only safe space to talk about anything.
Calming Crafts: Creating a personalised keepsake.
Building a Bird Box: Our Eco Champions helped students to build some bird nesting boxes, which coincided with www.nestboxweek.com
Understanding Stress and Exams: Led by our Mental Health Practitioners from the Mental Health Support Teams.
Wellbeing drop- ins: Talk about wellbeing or to gain information on where to seek support.
Social Group drop-ins: Meet new people, connect with others and get involved in a variety of mindful games and conversations.
Variety of sporting activities: Being physically active can improve mood, decrease the chance of depression and anxiety and lead to a better and more balanced lifestyle.
Gardening: Planting bedding plants around college.
