Everything you need to know about Interviews

If you have applied to join us in September 2026 before the closing date (Monday 1st December), you will be invited to an online interview with a member of Holy Cross staff.

These are hosted online using Microsoft Teams, and all the information you need to set this up is below.

You will get an email and text before your interview date to inform you that your appointment has been arranged. You will also receive a text 24 hours before the interview as a reminder.

To find your appointment details please login to your student portal (where you applied).

Here's everything you need to know about our Interviews:

Watch: How do the interviews work?

How do I download Microsoft Teams?

Download the free Teams app to the device(s) you will use to take part in the interview. Do this before your interview so you are prepared and ready to start on time.

We recommend that you use a laptop/computer/tablet rather than a phone for the interview. However, if using your phone is your only option, that will be accepted.

We expect your camera to be turned on.

How to use Microsoft Teams for your interview

Please read our instructions here before your interview, so you're familiar with how Teams works and you're prepared in good time for your interview.

It's very important you are well prepared and ready to start your interview on time.

When are the interview evenings?

You will be invited to one of our five ONLINE interview evenings.

You will be given a 20-minute appointment slot between 5pm and 8pm on one of these evenings:

  • Tuesday 11th November 2025
  • Wednesday 19th November 2025
  • Thursday 27th November 2025
  • Monday 15th December 2025
  • Wednesday 7th January 2026

Please make every effort to attend your appointment.

How do I find my interview details?

To find your interview appointment details, please login to your student portal (where you applied).

You will get an email and text before your interview date to inform you that your appointment has been arranged.

You will also receive a text 24 hours before the interview as a reminder.

How long is the interview?

You will be given a 20-minute slot for your interview.

This will be between 5pm and 8pm on your allocated interview date.

How will the interview work?

1. A link to join your interview will appear in the Interview panel of your Student Portal.

2. Once you've clicked on the link, you will be asked to wait in the lobby. Your interviewer will know you're waiting and will allow you to join the interview at your allotted time.

3. The interview will be conducted on a one-to-one basis and we kindly ask other family members do not contribute.

4. At the start of the interview, your interviewer will introduce themselves and ask you to confirm your identity.

5. The interview will then last for around 15 minutes, giving you a chance to tell your interviewer about yourself, the courses you've chosen and why you want to come to Holy Cross.

I can't make it for my interview – what do I do?

We understand it may not always be possible to attend on the date and/or at the time you've been given.

If this is the case, please email admissions@holycross.ac.uk to rearrange your interview as soon as possible.

When do I find out if I've got a place at Holy Cross?

We will contact you with the result of your interview by February half term, after all applicants have been interviewed.

No offers of places are made during the interview itself.

Will my school reference affect the offer I get?

If you receive a Conditional offer to join Holy Cross, please remember this is partly conditional on us receiving a suitable reference from your school.

As some references can be received after formal offers are made, this may impact on the original offer.

Who will be interviewing me?

You'll be able to see the name of your interviewer in the Interview panel of your Student Portal, alongside the details of when your appointment is.

Interviews will be conducted by a member of staff who, in most cases, teaches one of the subjects you have applied for.

Sometimes we may have to change your interviewer at late notice. If this happens, you will receive an email from the Admissions Department to let you know.

What if I can't connect to Teams on the night?

If you cannot join your Teams interview at your allotted time, we will call you to conduct your interview over the phone. The number we call from may appear as ‘number withheld’ or ‘unknown number’ – please accept the call.

Please ensure the contact numbers on your application are correct. If you need to change your contact numbers, please contact our Admissions Team (admissions@holycross.ac.uk) before your interview.

What if I'm unwell on the day of my interview?

We understand it may not always be possible to let us know in advance if you can't attend.

If you are unwell and unable to attend your interview, please email admissions@holycross.ac.uk to rearrange your interview as soon as possible.

My interview is on the last evening, will that affect my place?

No. There is no advantage to having an earlier interview date.

If you have applied by the closing date (Monday 1st December) you will be given an interview. The date of that interview has no impact on whether you are offered a place with us.

This video explains what we consider when making offers of places

Do you record the interviews?

Yes. All interviews conducted with a member of staff at Holy Cross are automatically recorded. You need to be mindful of this throughout.

Why do you host interviews with applicants?

We're committed to seeing every applicant individually.

We're looking for students who are passionate to learn and who would be helped by coming here – from whatever background.

We want you to choose a college that's right for you.

This is our philosophy and mission, and is why we keep our door open as wide as possible.

It also gives you experience which you can apply in interviews you'll have later in life, whether that's for employment, universities or apprenticeships.

Still have a question about interviews? Contact Admissions

Please contact the Admissions Team if your question hasn't been answered above.

Please note: If you're contacting us on the evening of your interview, our phone lines will not be staffed but we will respond to emails.
