The Cambridge Technical qualification in Sport and Physical Activity is a welcome addition to our PE provision at Holy Cross College. The course provides students with the practical knowledge and skills required to progress within the Sporting sector.
This course is the equivalent of one A level.
The CTEC Sport and Physical Activity course, is assessed by both external written examination and ongoing practical and theoretical assessment.
In the first year you will study the effect of Physical Activity on the body (Anatomy & Physiology) and complete modules including Sports Coaching & Leadership.
In the second year you will learn about Sports Organisations both inside and outside the UK and the importance of increasing participation in sport and physical activity.
Lessons will take place in both our PE Theory classroom and in our large, well-equipped Sports Hall. We also have an onsite gym where equipment will be used to support understanding from lessons.
Aside from lessons, we have a very active extra-curricular programme, with a wide range of competing teams which we will encourage you to join. These include: netball, football, basketball and athletics to name just a few. Alongside competitive sport at Holy Cross, we also run lunchtime recreational activities, including: badminton, cricket and table tennis.
There are a multitude of progression routes available after studying CTEC Sport & Physical Activity, including: progression to University, Apprenticeships, Coaching, Leisure Management, Sports Development and Events Management.
Assessment takes many forms on the course. There are 2 formal written exams (one in the first year and one in the second year). Other assessment is ongoing over the two years and takes the form of both practical and written work.
