Drama and Theatre is an exciting and rewarding course that covers all aspects of the professional
industry. Studying a wide range of plays, playwrights and practitioners, the course encourages you to view the theatre from the perspective of an actor, designer, director and audience member.
The course involves many exciting components such as devising, group text performance, monologue/duologue performance, watching live theatre and analysis of performance texts from the viewpoint of an actor and a director. You will study a broad range of texts from traditional Greek plays to contemporary playwrights including Peter Shaffer.
In addition to this, you will receive support that concentrates on acting technique, preparing you for drama school auditions.
We also stage an annual college musical, with past productions including: Les Misérables; Fiddler on the Roof; Sweet Charity; The Wizard of Oz; The Sound of Music; Chicago; Phantom of the Opera; Miss Saigon; Sweeney Todd and West Side Story.

However, the course is not only for aspiring actors. Past students have progressed to Oxbridge universities to read Law, Linguistics and Literature amongst other areas of study. Past students have also progressed to work in Medicine, Teaching, Journalism, Design and Politics. Key amongst this is the fact that the subject helps you develop interpersonal skills, vital to any
profession.
Theatre Studies is assessed throughout your second year of study through performance work with a visiting examiner, coursework and a written examination (in the summer examination season).
Level: A Level
This well respected course involves many exciting components such as devising; a group text performance; monologue/duologue performance; watching live theatre and analysis of performance texts from the perspective of an actor, theatre technician, director and audience member.
The transferable skills that the subject nurtures (including teamwork, leadership, organisation, independence, resilience and creativity) means that students who have studied Drama & Theatre have progressed to a wide variety of careers and study paths. As would be expected, a significant number go on to study Acting, Drama or Theatre Studies at university.

Entry Requirements:
General College entry requirements. GCSE English at grade 4 or above. Grade 4 or above in the subject if taken at GCSE (or equivalent at BTEC).
An interest in performance work either from the perspective of an actor or a designer is essential.

Literature, History, Psychology, Politics, Art and Music are all popular companion subjects for this A Level. However, we have students who study a diverse range of subjects in combination with Drama & Theatre.
