Trio of students debate in Spanish at North Schools' Debating Contest

3rd Feb 2026

Huge congratulations to James Stewart, Isaac Vitti and Pierina Pagliuca who represented Holy Cross College at the North Schools' Modern Languages Debating Competition in late January.

Held at Cheadle Hulme School, our students debated in Spanish with great confidence and respect, winning the first debate on allowing the vote at 16 and very narrowly losing the second debate on whether it's worth going to university these days.

It's the first time we've entered the competition and we're incredibly proud of our students – they're even planning to mentor next year's team to build on their achievement.

A huge thank you to Maria Garcia-Alvarez, our Spanish assistant, who's been working with the students during lunch breaks to prepare them for this incredible opportunity.
