A Level Dance combines practical, theory and choreography classes. The A Level course will develop your existing dance skills and introduce you to new and challenging styles. This course will suit you if you want to develop a practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of dance.
We pride ourselves on offering students maximum performance opportunities, working with the college’s experienced dance teachers and professional dance practitioners.
The workshops cover various dance styles including modern, ballet and contemporary dance, working to develop strength and technique.
Students will also analyse live and pre-recorded dance performances and be given the opportunity to work with professional practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills.
Visiting workshop opportunities have included practitioners from Chicago the musical, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Richard Alston, Rambert Dance Company, Matthew Bourne and The Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Companies. Dance students are given links with local theatre companies and encouraged to further their performance skills.
Extra-curricular dance is offered. The annual dance show involves all dance students and extra-curricular participants. Production classes invite all students to get involved in the annual musical production in either dance, drama, music or on the technical and backstage side of the production team. There are also dance trips to see professional companies.
Dance is a subject you can pursue further into higher education. University graduates go on to diverse careers - from performance and choreography to public relations and marketing.
The two-year course is assessed through a practical and written examination. Practical exam work is assessed by a visiting external examiner.
