Students and staff spread kindness through letter writing

23rd Sep 2026

As part of our support for the United Nation’s International Day of Older Persons on 1st October, students and staff have been taking part in a simple but powerful act of kindness – writing letters to older people who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.

Working with the charity Letters Against Isolation, our college community came together to create heartfelt messages designed to brighten someone's day and remind them that they are valued, remembered and cared for.

In a world where communication is often instant and digital, a handwritten letter can have a profound impact. Each message offers a personal connection, a few words of encouragement, and the reassurance that someone has taken the time to think of them.

The initiative reflects our college commitment to compassion, community and social responsibility. As students sat down to write, they were encouraged to consider the positive difference that small acts of kindness can make to the lives of others.

Loneliness can affect people of all ages, but older members of our communities can be particularly vulnerable to isolation. Through this project, our students have helped bridge generations, sharing messages of hope, friendship and support with people they may never meet, but whose lives they can still touch.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part – thank you for making a difference.
