Remembering Samantha Ahearn with purple day fundraiser

1st May 2026

Thank you to all students and staff who came together to remember former Holy Cross student Samantha Ahearn with our purple day fundraiser.

Samantha sadly died aged 19 due to an epileptic seizure in July 2009. At the time, she had just finished her A Levels after studying at Holy Cross.

We wanted to remember Samantha and raise awareness of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) within our college community.

We hosted a purple day, the colour of SUDEP Action, the only UK charity supporting those whose loved ones have died suddenly from an epilepsy-related death.

We had lots of fundraising activities in the social area including a nail bar, face glitter and gems, cakes and Cadbury chocolates.

Samantha’s mum Lynn joined us in college for the event to see how, as a college community, we continue to remember her much-loved daughter. She will always be a part of Holy Cross.

We’re proud the event raised £300 for SUDEP Action – it was equally important to remember Samantha and raise awareness of SUDEP.
