Celebrating Ashir and Emily at the Catenians’ Public Speaking Competition

4th Feb 2026

Ashir and Emily proudly represented Holy Cross at the annual Catenians’ Public Speaking Competition in late January.

The event is known for challenging young people to think critically, communicate confidently, and engage meaningfully with ethical issues.

Ashir captivated the audience with an exceptional spoken word performance, delivering a piece that stood out for its rhythm and powerful use of alliteration.

His creative approach not only showcased his flair for language but also heightened the emotional and intellectual impact of his message.

Emily followed with a compelling and wellreasoned argument responding to the question: “Should the law always be obeyed?”

Her thoughtful exploration demonstrated maturity, nuance, and a deep understanding of the complex relationship between law, morality, and social responsibility.

Both students framed their speeches through an important lens of social justice, engaging with ethical concerns that resonate strongly in today’s world.

We are incredibly proud of Ashir and Emily for their courage, creativity, and conviction.

Competitions like these highlight the value of student voice – and our students certainly had powerful things to say.
